Ha Long Bay Management Department organizes a Workshop to Identify and Evaluate Typical and Unique Cultural Values in Ha Long Bay
On the morning of October 30th, in Ha Long city, Ha Long Bay Management Department organized a Workshop to Identify and Evaluate Typical and Unique Cultural Values in Ha Long Bay.
Attending the Conference were domestic experts and scientists such as Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim is currently Vice Chairman of the National Cultural Heritage Council); Prof. Dr. Tu Thi Loan, Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts; Prof. Dr. Lam Thi My Dung, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Nang Chung, Vietnam Archaeological Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tan Van, Center for Karst and Geological Heritage, Institute of Geological Sciences and Mineral Resources; Dr. Ha Huu Nga, Archaeologist, Cultural Researcher; Mr. Christian Manhart - International consultant on culture, art history and archaeology; former Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam. Ha Long Bay was recognized as a World Natural Heritage in 1994 for its aesthetic value. In 2000, Ha Long Bay was further recognized for its geological and geomorphological value. In addition to the values recognized by UNESCO, Ha Long Bay also has biodiversity and historical and cultural values. As a natural heritage, Ha Long Bay also has profound historical and cultural values. At the workshop, experts affirmed the cultural values of Ha Long Bay, with typical characteristics, depth and rich strata, with many tangible and intangible cultural values, documentary heritage; vivid evidence for the tradition of exploiting the sea, thinking towards the sea, and developing the marine economy. These values have contributed to increase the unique value, depth, integrity, and authenticity of Ha Long Bay.

Mr. Christian Manhart - Former Chief Representative of UNESCO in Vietnam, International Consultant on Culture, Art History and Archaeology spoke at the Workshop.
Mr. Pham Dinh Huynh, Deputy Director of Ha Long Bay Management Department presented a paper at the Workshop.
The workshop received 18 presentations and comments from management agencies, experts and scientists in clarifying the cultural values of Ha Long Bay. On that basis, the Ha Long Bay Management Department continues to advise Quang Ninh Province to deploy solutions to effectively and sustainably manage, protect and promote the unique and typical cultural heritage resources in Ha Long Bay, directly linked to the development of tourism and local heritage economy. At the same time, it will absorb and supplement scientific arguments to research, identify, evaluate and advise on solutions to preserve the cultural values of Ha Long Bay at the international level./.
