Sung Sot cave – A hidden biological treasure in the heart of Ha Long Bay
If you're planning a trip to explore Ha Long Bay, don't miss the chance to visit Sung Sot Cave - one of the most beautiful and famous caves in the area. Not only does it impress with its magnificent system of stalactites and its uniquely shaped cave ceiling, but Sung Sot Cave also harbors a rich natural treasure with high biodiversity value.

Right from the entrance of the cave, visitors can encounter many typical plant species of Ha Long such as Banyan (Ficus), Chinese Banyan (Ficus microcarpa), Fragrant Bauhinia, and various types of climbing vines that blanket the path. The area in front of the cave, stretching down to the foot of the island, is home to a diverse range of plants including Fig trees, Wild Ginger, Ha Long Palm, Mok flower, and Begonia, forming a lush and vibrant natural landscape.
Notably, the area stands out for the presence of the Ha Long Cycad (Cycas tropophylla)-an endemic plant species found only in this bay region. These cycads grow in clusters of several hundred individuals on the rocky cliffs right outside the cave, creating a truly unique and striking landscape.
Inside the cave, it serves as a “home” to various small creatures adapted to life in the dark, such as cave spiders, cave lice, and especially the Ha Long Cave Crab-an endemic species found only in Ha Long Bay. Although little known to the public, the Ha Long Cave Crab holds significant value for conservation and scientific research, representing a rare genetic resource that needs protection.
Sung Sot Cave is not only a destination for nature lovers, but also an ideal place to explore and learn about the unique ecosystem of Ha Long Bay. Take the time to visit and experience the wonders of nature!
