Destruction of illegal Plastic Fish Cages in Ha Long Bay

 

On December 10, Ha Long Bay Management Department, in cooperation with relevant agencies and authorities, organized the destruction of 45,400 illegal plastic fish cages used for aquaculture in Ha Long Bay.

These plastic cages were confiscated from 38 households engaged in illegal aquaculture activities in Ha Long Bay. After several notifications, awareness campaigns, and attempts to persuade the households to comply, Ha Long Bay Management Department, in coordination with relevant authorities, seized the cages that had been abandoned at the foot of the mountains and along the water.

The collection of illegal aquaculture cages took place in areas managed by the Center for Conservation III, including the following locations: Vung Chua Islet, Vung Chua Con, Con Cho Islet, Oan Be Islet (Hang Ham), Trang Islet (Dai Bang Islet), Hang Tien Islet (Hang Dau Islet), Chau Chien Islet, Cu Dai Islet, Mam Xoi Islet, and Met Islet.

Staff from Ha Long Bay Violation Handling and Inspection Team (Ha Long Bay Management Department) counted the seized fishing equipment.

In addition to destroying the illegal plastic fish cages, Ha Long Bay Management Department also destroyed several prohibited fishing tools, such as dredge nets and plankton nets, which had been confiscated from fishing vessels operating in the core area of Ha Long Bay.
