Ha Long Bay Management Department - numerous activities during the peak month of 2025 environmental action
In response to the national call for environmental action, and in line with similar efforts across the country, the Ha Long Bay Management Department has launched a series of practical initiatives. These include raising awareness and disseminating environmental protection policies and laws via the Department’s communication platforms such as its website and fanpage; outreach efforts by tour guides and ticket inspectors to educate tour boat operators; and direct communication by the Department’s youth union members with tourists at passenger ports.
In addition, the Department’s staff and inspection teams have been actively engaged in patrolling and supervising environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change response measures related to tourism services and aquaculture activities in Ha Long Bay.

Alongside the participation of the Quang Ninh Provincial Women's Union, Quang Ninh Cement and Construction Joint Stock Company, and others, the Ha Long Bay Management Department hosted an exhibition booth on June 1 at the 30/10 Square.
The booth showcased recycled waste models, products made from recycled materials, and featured demonstrations of achievements in reducing plastic waste in Ha Long Bay.

As part of its environmental protection efforts-particularly the commitment to saying not to single-use plastic products-since September 2019, the Ha Long Bay Management Department has actively implemented the Government's and Quang Ninh Province’s policy of eliminating plastic bags and single-use plastics.
The Department has intensified communication efforts targeting individuals, organizations, and businesses operating tourism and service activities in Ha Long Bay, while also implementing various practical solutions to combat plastic waste.
As of now, 204 tourism boat businesses and operators; 15 kayak and rowboat service providers; and 51 aquaculture businesses and households have signed a commitment not to use single-use plastic products in their tourism and service activities on the Bay.
The anti-plastic waste movement in Ha Long Bay has contributed to reducing over 90% of plastic waste in sightseeing and tourism activities, and a 94% decrease in the use of styrofoam buoys in floating structures operated by businesses and service providers. At the same time, it has significantly raised awareness and transformed behaviors among the business community, local residents, and tourists alike.
During the peak month of environmental action in 2025, environmental protection activities have been given heightened attention by the Management Department. In addition to online awareness campaigns via the Department’s social media platforms, the Youth Union has been actively promoting the message of avoiding single-use plastics directly at tourist boat ports.
Each activity represents a dedicated effort by the Ha Long Bay Management Department to protect the environment of the World Heritage Site.

The Ha Long Bay Management Department’s implementation of the Peak Month of Environmental Action 2025 is closely aligned with the national campaign “Joining Hands to Reduce Plastic Waste – Spreading a Green Lifestyle.” This effort not only aims to mobilize the entire society to participate in diverse and practical activities with broad outreach, but also to raise awareness and responsibility among communities, businesses, all levels of government, and individuals in reducing plastic pollution, promoting a circular economy, and fostering a green lifestyle-especially among organizations and individuals engaged in tourism and service activities in Ha Long Bay.
The program also serves as a response to the International Day for Biological Diversity, Vietnam Sea and Island Week, World Oceans Day, and World Environment Day.
Activities under this program will run from the end of May through the end of June 2025.
